£6million payout for manager falsely accused of theft

A Chipotle manager has been awarded nearly $8million (circa £6million) by a Californian jury after she was fired following what was dubbed a ‘revenge plot’ orchestrated by her colleagues.

Local paper The Fresno Bee reports that Jeanette Ortiz was accused of stealing $626 (£460) in 2015 from the Mexican-themed fast food restaurant in Fresno, California.

Her lawyers said the firing was part of a revenge plot to get back at the fast-food manager for filing a compensation claim for an alleged job-related injury.

She denied the theft but her bosses told her she’d been caught doing it on video. When she insisted on viewing the tapes she was told they’d been destroyed.
