Number of sick employees showing up to work trebles

HR departments might be pleased to hear the news that the sickie is on the decline. However, something sinister lies beneath the statistics.

A survey by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) found that the number of employees showing up to work when sick has more than tripled since 2010, with 86% of employers seeing employees coming into work ill.

A 2010 survey found that just 26% of employers observed presenteeism (coming into work when ill) in their workplace.

Furthermore, the research found that a small number of businesses are taking action to prevent presenteeism.
