The state of the nation’s mental health is, rightly so, a hot topic. And, with the UK’s productivity levels on a relative decline compared to our European neighbours, the two are increasingly being looked at in conjunction – as parts of the same puzzle.
To understand more, Grapevine spoke to Pip Hulbert, CEO of Wunderman UK, who explained what employers do to tackle these interlinked issues.
What’s the link between mental health and productivity?
It’s well documented that poor mental health affects workplace productivity, and it's not surprising. Poor mental health has been found to cost the UK economy £99bn a year, according to a review commissioned by the Government - £42bn of which is workplace-related. Clearly, productivity is dependent on good mental health, which is why Wunderman is taking steps to invest in our employees’ wellbeing for the long-term.
