As technology becomes ever more pervasive in modern life, it makes sense that many firms are looking for alternatives to the traditional two-page CV. Candidates are increasingly being asked to prove their salt in different formats such as video.
However, as fun as video CVs might be for the hiring manager, for the candidate they could be a nightmare – and they could be harming your business too.
Juliet Eccleston, Co-Founder of AnyGood?, warns that the trend for using the likes of video CVs could be further widening the diversity gap by alienating those without the resources to develop this content and creating an unfair advantage for those who find producing videos easy.
“While in this modern world video content is more widely available and shared on a personal level, there’s a real risk that hirers could be overly-wowed by a video CV, leading to those with the best skills set and cultural fit being overlooked simply due to the format of their submission,” she explained.
