Car manufacturer Tesla is under fire after an investigation revealed serious workplace injuries are not being reported with one worker saying: “It’s just a matter of time before somebody gets killed.”
Furthermore, the whims and aesthetic choices of the firm’s mercurial Founder, Elon Musk are used by bosses to justify safety shortcuts. When one worker complained that that there were lack of clear pedestrian lanes in one Tesla factory, a boss told her: “Elon does not like the colour yellow.”
As reported in Reveal News, under fire for mounting injuries, Tesla suddenly reported a sharp drop in its 2017 injury rate. It fell from 8.8 injuries per 100 employees in 2015 to 6.2 per 100 employees in 2017.
However investigative reporting showed that Tesla had failed to report serious injuries, making the companies numbers look better than they were.
