London radio station's 'abusive' and 'exploitative' practices laid bare

A London-based radio station has made the decision to suspend broadcasting after allegations of abusive and exploitative practices were made against former DJs and producers.

Radar Radio, a London-based station, has been accused of breeding a sexist, homophobic, racist and transphobic culture.

The station, which is owned by Ollie Ashley, the son of Sports Director Owner, Mike Ashley, was hit with the allegations last month, in a statement from Pxssy Palace. The queer feminist DJ collective made up of women of colour,  ceased working with the radio last month and released a series of statement explaining why. Their allegations included accusations that the station tokenised women, feminism, queer and trans culture as well as people of colour for “capitalist purposes, whilst making little to no effort to practise intersectionality within their own organisation,” – MixMag reports.

They cited several examples, such as allowing the airing of homophobic and transphobic shows, theft of ideas, asking staff to work for free or with very little pay and creating a toxic environment, leading to the departure of many women of colour staffers.
