Beating stress and depression in the workplace

UK productivity is being severely impacted by stress and anxiety in the workplace, according to research from Canada Life Group Insurance. 

Three in ten (30%) of the 1,001 workers surveyed said that their high workload coupled with pressure to perform has resulted in them feeling stressed. This is a higher percentage than those affected by stress in their personal life (24%). 

Paul Avis, Marketing Director of Canada Life Group Insurance, suggested employers should look for ways to help staff reduce anxiety in order to boost productivity. 

“It is important to keep in mind that not everybody operates in the same way and being flexible with your staff can often mean creating a better working environment and increased engagement,” he said. “For example, flexible working not only has the benefit of improving work-life balance but can also have a positive influence on overall employee health.”
