Just two years ago, Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP, received one of the largest remunerations that a FTSE 100 Chief Executive has ever received – a pay cheque that topped £60million.
However, now the well-paid CEO is making headlines for different reasons as he is investigated for misconduct.
Although the Chief Executive has amassed well over £200million in remuneration over the last five years, this won’t inure him to a search into reports of improper personal behaviour and misuse of company funds.
Sorrell is already under pressure a result of WPP’s tumbling share price, which last year dropped 40% to its lowest point since 2013.
