Men gain more career development from international assignments

Men are more likely to feel that working abroad accelerated their career development, in comparison to their female colleagues, according to research from AXA Global Healthcare.

Over half (51%) of male expats reported improved career development following their global placement, compared with just 39% of women.

However, the research also revealed that women are more likely to continue living abroad after completing their assignment, with over a third (37%) saying they decided to permanently move to another country and make it their home, as opposed to fewer than a quarter (23%) of men.

Marjolein Fruithof is a Dutch expat who has lived in Dubai for five years. She told the researchers that she is motivated by a sense of adventure.
