United Airlines scraps 'unfair' lottery bonuses

United Airlines have scrapped a quarterly bonus ‘lottery’, following employee backlash.

The firm changed their traditional employee bonus structure, in place of a lottery style system which allowed a few workers at random to receive rewards, including $100,000, a holiday, cash rewards, or a Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan, according to Chicago Business Journal.

Just 1,361 employees would be eligible for the lottery bonuses and only one would receive the top cash prize of $100,000. Furthermore, only workers with perfect attendance records for the quarter would be eligible, the NYT reports.

Pilots complained to their union that the lottery system would make it more challenging to earn bonuses.
