Today marks Employee Appreciation Day, so if you haven’t thanked your team for their hard work this week, then you might want to consider it.
However, whilst marking this day is a great way to show employees you care, gratitude should be shared all year round. It makes business sense; it improves retention rates, employee satisfaction and their sense of value at work.
To understand what areas employers should focus on to deliver a long-term strategy for content employees, Steve Wainwright, Managing Director, EMEA at Skillsoft, spoke to HR Grapevine.
One area he suggests businesses need to embrace is flexible working. “Work/life balance can be a tricky issue, especially for today’s mobile, always ‘on’ workforce,” he says. “However, addressing this balance through schemes such as flexible working and/or remote working can reduce employee stress. Few people are capable of continued concentration over long periods and reports suggest that shorter working days could ultimately drive greater productivity.”
