UK employers are in support of a national approach that tackles the skills and labour shortages post-Brexit, according to the latest quarterly Labour Market Outlook from the CIPD and The Adecco Group.
The difficulties in sourcing labour following Britain’s vote to leave the EU have been well-documented, and the survey of more than 2,000 employers found that 18% of employers are currently finding it hard to source local applicants to fill lower skilled roles.
As a result, around two in five (41%) employers support the idea of a UK-wide immigration system, based on national labour or skill shortage occupations, in the likely event of migration restrictions once the UK leaves the European Union.
Around one in ten (13%) favour a sector-based policy and just five per cent would back a regional policy.
