Amazon workers sacked and told to go home at midnight

Staff at Amazon UK distribution centres were allegedly sacked halfway through their night shifts and told to go home at midnight.

Speaking to The Mirror, Christina Vargo, who worked as a packer at the Tilbury, Essex, warehouse since October, claimed she was laid off without any notice during her shift on January 3.

Vargo, who was employed via PMP Recruitment, and her colleagues were then left to wait outside in the cold, with some waiting around until 6am for transport to begin running again so they could return home.

“We still had nearly a month of our contracts left but rumours had been flying around,” Vargo said. “Everyone was nervous but our managers said we had nothing to worry about.
