REVEALED: The top countries for work-life balance

Would you be willing to move to another country to gain a better work/life balance? According to research from TotallyMoney, there are plenty of options open to Brits who would consider looking overseas for the chance for more leisure time.

The researchers created a ranking based on eight categories, including average salary, the minimum holiday allowance and time devoted to leisure. Each of these metrics was then converted into a score between one and 10 and used to rank European counties against each other.

The UK was found to be lagging well behind its neighbours, suggesting an overseas move might bring better work/life balance opportunities for Brits. With only six bank holidays, an average monthly salary of just 1,888EUR (£1,682) and an average of 37 hours worked in a week, the UK only manages to reach position 13 on the list.

Greece, Lativa and Turkey make up the bottom of the list in positions 22, 23 and 24 respectively. Turkey’s long working hours of 46.8 per week and low salary of 528EUR (£470) secured its low ranking, while Greece’s low happiness level (5.32) and Lativa’s dismal productivity (2.1) saw them scoring poorly.
