Whitehall has a larger pay discrepancy between male and female workers than the BBC, with certain departments having a gender pay gap of 17%, new figures show.
Women are paid less than men across the civil service, with an overall pay gap of 12.7%.The UK's top civil servant Sir Jeremy Heyward said the data was a "matter for concern" – BBC reports.
The Department of Transport said its gender pay gap was mainly due to the "large numbers of female employees in administrative grades."
In the Department for Exiting the EU, there are nearly twice as many men in senior roles than women – an explanation for the gender pay gap. The department said it would take steps to close the gaps, but believes there is already "equal treatment for work of equal or similar value."
