Elon Musk's Tesla recruiting left staff with 'bruised egos'

It's HR's duty to be rigorous with hiring, however, if the CEO got involved with scrutinising every recruit – even down to cleaning staff – then it would make the job extremely frustrating.

According to an ex-Tesla recruiter, Marissa Peretz, this was the process at Tesla. No one person got a job at the tech firm without his approval.

Speaking to Business Insider, Peretz, who helped the company grow from 200 to 16,000 employees worldwide, recalled a time where she was tasked with hiring 2,000 employees for a new factory.

"He had to approve every single hire," she said. "We had to do written bios on every single person. The janitor. The assemblers. The cafeteria workers."
