The state of mental health in the UK workforce is a topic that is, rightly so, gaining increased prominence.
However, there is still much that needs to be done. A recent Canada Life survey found that 5.8million employees are going into work when they’re mentally unwell.
As co-Founder of Natural HR, a Birmingham-based software firm, Sarah Dowzell said: “It’s important to ensure employees realise it’s just as acceptable to take time off for mental health as it is to go to the dentist.”
However, whether employees are likely to be comfortable, or not, speaking about their mental health is likely to depend on, not only how disposed they are to opening up as an individual, but how supportive a company’s culture is.
