It's a match!: University boffins find key to hiring success

Human resources have to take a lot into consideration when searching for the right employee, including whether their skills and personality are suited to the job.

It’s no surprise, therefore, that a hire whose characteristics are suited to the role and company they’ve joined, will likely do better and earn more, according to new research published in Psychological Science.

“This updates the notion that you only have to look at the personality traits of an individual to predict his or her life outcomes. Our results indicate that it's more complex: You also have to take that person's environment into account,” explained lead Researcher Jaap Denissen of Tilburg University.

Previously, resourcing staff were likely to rely on research which indicated that some personalities are just more suited to success in the work environment in general.
