Heartbreaking tale of UK's 'oldest supermarket worker'

Reg Buttress was thought to be the UK’s oldest supermarket worker – at 94 years old. He was described as a legend who had known some customers for most of their lives.

Well-known and liked in the South Wales Sainsbury’s branch he worked out of, Buttress finally retired on his 94th birthday in September.

Sadly, for those that worked with the pensioner, he passed away two months after his retirement.

A Sainsbury’s spokeswoman said: “Reg was a much-loved colleague and an inspiration to all of us. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this sad time. He will be missed.”
