Apple's Diversity boss quits after 'white men' comments

Apple’s first VP for Diversity and Inclusion, Denise Young Smith, is leaving her role after just six months, with a furore over her comments on white men – Business Insider reports.

Although TechCrunch report that Smith was already minded to leave Apple, before she made controversial comments about white men at the One Young World Summit, her speech sparked criticism.

Speaking at the summit, Smith said, "There can be 12 white, blue-eyed, blond men in a room and they're going to be diverse too because they're going to bring a different life experience and life perspective to the conversation.”

Her comments drew immediate criticism. Especially so as Silicon Valley is under increased scrutiny regarding the industry’s attitude to diversity and inclusion.
