The real reason your talent is leaving you

95% of HR leaders cited burnout as the main reason that their top talent is heading for the door, according to a study from Kronos. 614 HR leaders, including firms with 100 to 2,500+ employees, were surveyed to which they freely admitted that the factors contributing to burnout should be under their control.

Bearing this in mind, it would seem HR leaders have a serious problem on their hands. The future success of any workforce rests in how talent is managed and developed, without which retention and recruitment will spiral out of control.

Burnout is the silent killer in any organisation. A talented employee can seem as if they are coping outwardly, however they are creeping closer and closer toward handing in their notice and running screaming for the door. One in five HR leaders at organisations with 100 to 500 employees cited burnout as the cause of 10% or less of their turnover while 15% of HR leaders at organisations larger than 2,500 employees, say burnout causes 50% or more of annual turnover.

Facing these figure, HR has a choice to make. What can you do to retain top talent, without sacrificing the overarching needs of your organisation? Has HR kept pace with the changing demands of the workplace, and, if not, why not?
