The escalation of the Harvey Weinstein scandal has forced a number of companies to examine their own cultures, including the BBC, who are currently investigating 25 separate cases of bullying and harassment, due to a ‘spike’ of complaints made in recent years.
Executives of the British broadcaster appeared before the digital, culture, media and sports Commons committee on Tuesday, where Deputy Director General Anne Bulford, revealed that the corporation was going through a ‘spike’ of complaints following Weinstein allegations and the historical sexual abuse offences by former DJ Jimmy Savile.
"You won’t be surprised to know we have a spike at present," Bulford said. "We’ve got 25 live cases at the moment, which is a range of different issues coming through.”
Last year, only three cases were investigated, however, not all of the cases appear to be directed towards current staff.
