Studies have shown that better-looking people climb up the career ladder faster, but the weight of the claims are still questionable.
However, an increasing number of individuals are going under the knife to enhance both their looks and careers. A new John Hopkins University study found that people with successful nose jobs appear more attractive, more successful and healthier to other people than they did before getting work done.
Study co-author and Plastic Surgeon Dr. Lisa Ishii, explained: “While we are not suggesting that [a nose job] is the only way to improve one’s appearance, improving our attractiveness and health as compared to others conveys a competitive advantage.”
However, professionals are arguing that it isn’t vanity – it’s the psychological impact that comes with feeling good about yourself. Nancy DellaRocco, 54, an executive for Harvard Business School, began losing her hair in her 30s. But, working in a job that requires public speaking and pitching, she was self-conscious that her receding hairline would be distracting and so, she underwent a $5,000 hair transplant with Dr Robert Leonard of Leonard Hair Transplant Associates.
