A female BP employee claims she was sacked for her sense of humour, as she was told by her female boss “women simply aren’t funny”.
Kathryn Buttle, 38, was made redundant in March 2016 from her £87,000-a-year job as a surveyor and claims the reason is due to being funny – The Telegraph reports.
She is taking British Petroleum to an employment tribunal, claiming unfair dismissal, sexual discrimination and public interest disclosure.
She said that as the only female surveyor in her team, she felt the men created an environment of bullying, leaving her unable to perform in her job properly. When she raised her concerns with her boss, Herlinde Mannaerts-Drew, she was told that some staff members "did not appreciate [her] personality".
