#payinterns: Are intern laws set to change?

This morning, #payinterns is trending on Twitter, with many users voicing their displeasure at the countless companies that advertise unpaid internships.

Many careers – journalism, media roles, banking and charity roles – still require that those at the start of their professional journey work for free to gain ‘experience’ or ‘exposure’.

Yet, many aren’t happy. The issue has become such a talking point that, this week, it will be debated in the House of Lords as to whether unpaid work needs to be capped at four weeks.

Twitter users are also weighing in. @Femi_Sorry wrote that not everyone has parents that can support young workers through unpaid roles.
