The brainchild of Elon Musk, Tesla, allegedly failed to prevent anti-gay harassment and unjustly fired an employee for seeking protection – The Guardian reports.
Jorge Ferro, 35, who began working as a production worker on a Tesla assembly line in 2016, claims that his supervisor threatened him with violence for being gay and consistently mocked him. After making a second complaint, according to his account, an HR representative took away Ferro’s badge, claiming that he had an “injury” that prevented him from working and told him there’s “no place for handicapped people at Tesla”, Ferro alleges.
Jamar Taylor, the supervisor who trained Taylor allegedly told Ferro his clothes were “too tight – gay tight”, and later said he was not “welcome” because of his sexuality. Taylor also “went on to suggest that [Ferro] had a lot of enemies because ‘everyone suspects that [he is] gay’,” the suit said.
Ferro said that the taunts escalated to violent threats and so he complained to plant manager, Dave Rebagliati. As a result, HR removed Taylor from the assembly line. However, other co-workers began to harass Ferro, prompting him to issue a second complaint to Rebagliati. The manager responded by transferring Ferro to another assembly line row, according to the complaint.
