HR in WWII: 'How to deal with women'

With the blocks on female hiring, and pay, still affecting the workplace – a recent Korn Ferry study found that just five per cent of CEO positions at top 1000 US companies are held by women, whilst the average gender pay in the UK is circa 18% – it’s easy to forget that we’ve come a long way.

Reminding HR practitioners everywhere of progress in the workplace, is the Daily Mail’s publication of a WWII-era video which advises male factory bosses on how to hire and manage female workers.

The 1944 video, produced by the US Office of Education, refers to women as ‘crazy’ and ‘sensitive’ and advises explaining rules extra carefully so they can understand.

The ten-minute video, titled “Supervising Women Workers” also recommends not spending time with one woman more than another as they are naturally jealous.
