Honesty is the best policy, but in the world of hiring, adding a few embellishments can potentially increase the number of candidates.
It's assumed that the majority of jobseekers would be more attracted to the prospect of working in an ‘energetic target-led fast-paced commercial environment,’ rather than what actually lurks between the lines ‘you’ll be busy, really busy, as we’re dumping a new client list on you, and expect that you’ll be making 207 calls a day.’
However, a number of businesses are turning to candour with their words in job interviews – and with good reason, impenetrable jargon is actually putting younger candidates off from applying to roles. Last month a report compiled by Business in the Community and City & Guilds, said many organisations “talked up” roles and made them needlessly complicated, especially for roles that attract young candidates (aged between 16- to 24-years-old).
Steering clear of this potential misperception, one wine bar has posted a job advert that promises ‘lousy work conditions’ a ‘demeaning work programme’ and ‘mediocre pay.’ And surprisingly, Darren Ayres, Owner of the Guildford bar, Five and Lime, has been “quite taken aback by the interest,” – the Telegraph reports.
