CEOs reveal how to deal with the 'holiday return'

Returning to the workplace after a holiday can be difficult, especially after agile minds have become soft, as a result of sangria, sand and sun. Lie-ins have become the norm and the hardest decision one has had to make for a fortnight is where to go for dinner.

However, whilst you have been away, not much has changed. Emails still have to be answered, meetings attended and water-cooler small talk needs to be made – even if you’re feeling like you couldn’t possibly navigate these situations in your new, relaxed state.

And, with a recent study from Kronos finding that more than a quarter of Brits (28%) admit to reconsidering their jobs whilst on holiday, it’s important that HR offers sage advice to employees for managing their first steps back into the office. This can also include making sure that all staff get the annual leave they would like, meaning taking a fair and unbiased stance.

Furthermore, to quell any holiday-induced envy, sparked by colleagues who seem to be away more than others, Kronos recommend allowing those who are office-bound during summer the option to work outside and from cafes. Yet, to help those returning to work from their holidays, the Financial Times has collated a list of advice from the apex of the business world to help ease the dreaded return to work after the summer vacation.
