Do you spend more time on 'life admin' than lunch breaks?

Sometimes it can feel like the days go by in a minute. Between lunch meetings, client calls and briefings, it’s easy to forget chores you had to complete outside of the office.

And, in order to catch up on ‘life admin’ many employees are actively setting aside time in their working day to complete the tedious tasks. A report from Altodigital found that 82% of full time UK employees spend time undertaking ‘life admin’ while ‘on the clock’. This issue has escalated to such a point that we now spend more time on ‘life admin’ than we do on lunch.

And whilst this may seem like common sense to order your shopping from your work computer, or book a holiday or transfer funds, it’s actually posing a serious security risk for UK firms. Following the advanced wave of hacking we have experienced of late, companies need to educate employees on the proper safety precautions needed when using company computers.  

Jas Sura, Security Team Lead at Altodigital comments: “Although it may seem like simply ordering a new outfit for the weekend and quickly transferring some money to a friend is a quick and easy task, it may introduce problems further down the line. Site login and bank details may be stored automatically onto your device, meaning that if other staff members have access to it, or you leave your laptop unlocked while you are away from your desk, it could be a confidentiality disaster waiting to happen.
