We all know what makes up a bad boss: poor temperament, unrealistic expectations and inconsistent management. Most workers come across one at least once in their career.
However, when staff find a good manager, productivity, engagement and performance seem to rise as they’re willing to go the extra mile for them. But which sector has the best managers? Well, according to a recent UK management survey, bosses in banking are most beloved by their staff, with managers in accountancy and law a close second.
In third place, came leaders in the leisure and travel industry with three out of five workers scoring their boss highly. A very close fourth were healthcare managers, with 59% of workers scoring their boss as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’.
Overall, just over half (56%) of UK workers were positive about their boss – with only 13% of those surveyed described their manager as poor. Yet, what is it that makes a good boss that good? The One4all Rewards Management whitepaper found that overwhelmingly (78%) respondents believed it was good communication skills.
