7 most dangerous professions in the UK

If a job is considered dangerous, what role springs to mind? Fighter pilot? Circus performer? Zookeeper? Surely, a role in which the employee is placed in grave danger?

Well, according to data from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which was shared by The Telegraph, some of the deadliest jobs are those in seemingly low-risk sectors – with low-pay attached to the majority of those roles.

Whilst the immediate risk to the employee is obvious, Matthew Taylor, CEO of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce and Head of a Government review into the gig economy, claims that low quality jobs are actually making people unproductive which has the knock-on effect of the making the economy stagnant.

He said: “As we all know the UK has a productivity problem. This problem is complex and multifaceted but there is little doubt that one facet is bad work. However, one way that productivity could be improved is by ensuring that workers feel safe, cared for and well remunerated at work.”
