Casualty actor Tom Chambers has defended the BBC’s gender pay gap, claiming that men’s salaries pay for their wives and children too – Telegraph reports.
Chambers, who plays paramedic Sam Strachan in the BBC soap, initially hit back against collective pay gap outrage explaining that men often support unemployed family members.
He told The Sun: “"My wife works really hard as a stay-at-home mum, but I'm the only one bringing in a salary for our family. Many men's salaries aren't just for them, it's for their wife and children, too."
Chambers’ comments came in defence of male co-star Derek Thompson, who was found to be earning more than £350,000 when the BBC revealed the pay of its highest paid stars.
