Facebook workers living in garage challenge Zuckerberg

A couple, both employed as contractors for Facebook, have blasted the firm for ignoring the plight of lower-paid workers employed at the social-media giant – the Guardian reports.

Whilst the media often refer to Mark Zuckerberg’s company as the panacea to workplace problems – citing the work COO Sheryl Sandberg has undertaken, including offering extensive leave – two cafeteria workers are challenging this perception.

Speaking to the Guardian, Nicole and Victor, who work for food service contractor Flagship Facility Services at Facebook, admit they are earning $19.85 and $17.85 respectively – well above the local $15 an hour minimum for contractors.

However, local reports state that Facebook workers on four times that amount are struggling to make ends meet. With rising rent prices, since Facebook moved into the area - Palo Alto, California – Victor and Nicole live with their daughters in the garage.
