5 ways to make your workplace more mental health friendly

Mental health is an issue that many companies are still struggling to handle – with mismanagement of employees struggling with mental health issues costing the UK economy £100million per year.

Yet, a recent NHS survey found that 48% of staff would not feel comfortable talking with their bosses about mental health.  It’s paramount that HR change this failure to communicate effectively lest the financial, social and human costs stack up even more.

And, as 11% of sick days are currently attributed to mental health issues – stress, anxiety and depression amongst them – the workplace could be vastly improved for a few minor changes.

Christina Butterworth, Occupational Health and Wellbeing Specialist at Crossrail, recently spoke to HR Grapevine to highlight the efforts her employer are going through to spark open conversations regarding employees’ mental health.
