An Uber rider is raising a class-action lawsuit against the firm, accusing them of discriminating against New York City riders with disabilities – New York Times reports.
Valerie Joseph claims that the firm aren’t providing enough wheelchair access cars at a time when ride-hailing apps are fast challenging public transport as a viable mode of transportation.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a coalition of advocacy groups. However, it is not the first. Two other high-profile discrimination lawsuits, raised by handicapped travellers, have been launched this year.
Uber could do without any further controversy. Earlier this week, an extensive Buzzfeed report detailed a pervasive ‘burnout’ work culture at the firm – as well as ‘employee shaming’ for mistakes.
