How can HR get ahead of Brexit?

The word of the year has most definitely been Brexit. The UK’s decision to leave the EU sent businesses reeling and HR departments spinning, wondering what this will mean for their workforce.

So, what should HR be focusing their energy on? This was exactly the question that UK talent management company INTOO with the support of HR Futurist Perry Timms, sought to explore at a recent event.

The event brought up several interesting points, including the idea that Brexit is not the only disrupter making waves right now. The rise of technology, AI and robotics means that HR has an opportunity here to use Brexit as a platform for change. By looking at the roles that could be automated, and initiating changes in preparation for any potential post-Brexit skills shortage.

However, the dominant theme was the need for HR to better support their employees through the myriad of challenges they now face.  As Timms explained at the event: “Today’s employees are faced with a stacking of issues, whether it’s BREXIT or any of the other challenges that are coming up quickly over the horizon. Therefore, as HR professionals it’s on us to focus on creating environments where people want to be, where they feel safe and valued, and importantly where they can be the very best version of themselves. This requires a different approach.
