Remote working is fast becoming one of the most sought-after perks for employees, with more and more workers claiming that this benefit is one of the very best.

And a recent interview with Professor Nicholas Bloom, reported by Quartz, seems to validate this point. Speaking at TEDxStanford, Bloom explained that working in an office environment is an outdated requirement stemming from the Industrial Revolution.

“Working from home is a future-looking technology,” said Bloom. “I think it has enormous potential.” In order to make such assertions, Bloom studied a working environment in China. The company leaders had some employees work in the office and some work from home. “We found massive, massive improvement in performance—a 13% improvement in performance from people working at home,” Bloom explained.

Resignations from the business also halved when employees were allowed to work from home.
