In the UK, under the Equality Act 2010, companies cannot discriminate against potential hires based on their gender, sexual orientation, religion or disability – as long as they have the pre-requisite skills for the job.
To promote what those with disabilities have to offer the workforce, one restaurant in Japan is taking the UK’s legislation one step further: by only hiring waiting staff who suffer from dementia.
Named the Restaurant of the Order Mistakes, the pop-up works on the premise that although the staff may get your order wrong, you’ll be aware of that from the beginning and won’t dwell on it.
With foodbloggers celebrating the success of the restaurant, the organisers are planning another pop-up in September to commemorate World Alzheimer’s Day.
