How worker's £27k unpaid holiday compensation win affects HR

In a boost for employees’ rights, a former window salesman has been awarded £27,000, winning a compensation claim for holiday pay he didn’t receive during his tenure – the Guardian reports.

The complainant, known as Mr King, brought the claim against Sash Window Workshop after he failed to gain holiday pay over a 13-year period.

Although King’s contract did not specify if he was entitled to paid leave and described him as self-employed, an employment tribunal subsequently found he should have been treated as a full-time employee.

This ruling would have given King access to the benefits full-time workers receive, including sick pay and holiday pay.
