Breastfeeding in Parliament is a win for working mothers

In a win for working women, an Australian Senator became the first woman to breastfeed in the nation’s Parliament – BBC reports.

Green Party Politician Larissa Waters fed two-month-old daughter Alia Joy, during a vote on Tuesday, the first mother to do so.

This is despite lawmakers being allowed to do so since last year, following in the footsteps of the Australian Senate where it has been permitted since 2003.

Writing on Facebook, Waters explained that: “We need more women and parents in Parliament. And we need more family-friendly and flexible workplaces, and affordable child care, for everyone.”
