McDonald's to offer fixed contracts to UK workers

McDonald's is trialling something new for staff – and no, it’s not another burger for ‘the secret menu’, it’s the option to select either working fixed hours or having zero-hours contracts.

115,000 UK workers will now have the option to move to fixed contracts with a minimum number of guaranteed hours every week.

The fast food chain has been piloting the move in 23 company-owned and franchise outlets and found that around 20% of staff chose to move to fixed hours contracts, McDonald’s said in a statement.

Paul Pomroy, McDonald's UK Chief Executive Officer, said: "The vast majority of our employees are happy with their flexible contracts, but some have told us that more fixed hours would help them get better access to some financial products.
