The longstanding myth that being happy at work equates to increased productivity has long been studied, but the results are inconclusive.
In fact, writing in Quartz, Deputy Ideas Editor Meredith Bennett-Smith believes there is “something sinister about the corporate cult of positivity”.
Whilst employee wellbeing and morale are incumbent dilemmas for HR, research suggests that encouraging staff to be ‘happy’ at work will produce negative results.
This isn’t surprising, considering the chasm between how we actually feel about work and the emotions we’re expected to wear.
