The reason why this CEO asks applicants to text him

In a bizarre move, the CEO of a tech start-up has posted his phone number online asking applicants to give him a text.

Jager McConnell, Chief Executive at Crunchbase, a San Francisco-based business information aggregator, popped his digits onto the bottom of a recent press release asking engineers to “text me directly”.

Speaking to Inc., McConnell explained that this unprecedented move will help his firm overcome hiring biases that traditional resourcing and recruitment processes fail to overcome.

He said: “Something that happens as a company grows is that the unrepresented folks have trouble even getting to the recruiting process. They have trouble getting noticed or there might be unintentional bias where the name may imply a gender or race and you might discover someone doesn't get considered but they should be."
