Amazon, Deliveroo & Uber slammed for 'scare clause' contracts

The Work and Pensions Committee has slammed gig economy employers Amazon, Deliveroo and Uber for their employment practices and “egregious” contracts.

These firms are accused of “creating vocabulary” to avoid giving workers basic employee rights.

They are further accused of inserting clauses that make it almost impossible for “employees” to challenge their “self-employed” status and seek further rights.

Deliveroo’s contract insists that workers never go to court to challenge their self-employed status and warned, even if they won their case, the company would deduct expenses from damages and compensation awarded by the courts.
