The true cost of commuting revealed

Commuting is hardly the best bit of any employees’ day; however, it is an unfortunate necessity – unless you’re lucky enough to enjoying remote working.

A recent survey from insurance specialists Lexham found that the average British commuter will spend around £48,000 on this during their working life. A third of this money will be spent on snacks and coffees. Commuters will get through 997 bananas, read 2,248 newspapers and listen to 3,617 albums. 

The survey sets the average working life at 47 years, and surveyed 2,000 UK commuters.

Furthermore, the report found that UK employees will spend over a year over their lives commuting to work. 68% of staff will drive, 11% will take the train and eight per cent will cycle.
