'First Daughter' Ivanka Trump is set to become a White House employee, despite criticisms from ethics experts – The Guardian reports.
Trump announced last week that she would become an adviser to the Government, with an office in the White House - but without a specific title. She would also have a Government-issued phone, computer and security clearance and access to classified information.
Speaking on the appointment, Richard Painter, Law Professor at the University of Minnesota and former Chief Ethics Lawyer for George W Bush, said: “She has a West Wing office, she has equipment, she has a White House email address, she’s going to be doing policy work. For purposes of the conflict of interest statute, I believe she is a Government employee.”
Following this, she released a statement: “I have heard the concerns some have with my advising the President in my personal capacity while voluntarily complying with all ethics rules, and I will instead serve as an unpaid employee in the White House office, subject to all of the same rules as other federal employees.”
