Italy's period leave could worsen inequality

Italy could become the first Western country with an official menstrual leave policy - The Independent reports.

However, the plan is not without its critics.

Under the proposed law, women would be allowed three extra days off work if they experience a painful period.

The politician who put the law forward, Simonetta Rubinato, said: “It has been shown that women who suffer severe pain during their period are much less productive in these days.
