The pleasant idea of afternoon naps only really applies to children and the elderly – however, a group of scientific researchers are calling on companies to allow their employees the time to take a snooze in the afternoon.
Psychologist Dr Nerina Ramlakhan has claimed that workers should be allowed to take naps in order to stave off illness and tiredness, after the clocks went forward this weekend. Ramlakhan explained her theory to the publication, saying: The loss of an hour in bed is particularly detrimental to individuals who already struggle with sleep.
“This time change could see you drop down to a dangerously low amount. Many employees may be feeling worse for wear on Monday so bosses should consider allowing their staff to take a short nap in the office.’’
One way of introducing this would be allowing staff to take “cat naps” in the office – as Ramlakhan noted, they can help immeasurably with concentration levels and combatting fatigue.
