Apple faces up to racial diversity proposal

Racial diversity issues often take a back seat to gender diversity issues in tech, especially when it comes to making the headlines.

But next week, Apple’s shareholders will vote on enforced boardroom diversification after Open MIC figures revealed that only nine per cent of the tech giant’s workforce is black.

Whilst 27% of Apple’s US hires are from underrepresented ethnic groups, only seven per cent of leadership are Latino and three per cent black.

The report, released by Open MIC, a non-profit organisation working to increase diversity amongst tech industry executives, showed that blacks and Latinos make up just 5.3% of professionals in the US tech industry.
